It’s no secret that the Margaret River is one of Australia’s most prestigious wine areas. What many don’t realise, however, is how many of the region’s local producers are leading the way in regenerative farming. You could spend your entire stay discovering what the area’s artisanal producers are up to and sampling the delights on offer, but that would be ignoring Margaret River’s other great treasure: its wilderness.
The local karri forests, where you can walk beneath trees that stretch 60 metres into the sky, are also great places for a picnic. if you lean more towards the ocean than the forest, the 123km Cape to Cape Track offers magnificent sea views along with plenty of oxygen-rich air to clean out your system - and of course if you are not a hardcore hiker, you can simply choose a shorter stretch.
Tempting as it is, be sure not to pack your schedule with too many activities. Margaret River is a great place to take it easy.
