Perth’s top foodie hotspots

20 Jan, 2025

Believe it or not, there’s more to Perth than just beautiful beaches and smiling quokkas – it’s also become a haven for foodies and with its abundance of delicious local produce, it’s no wonder why. From riverside picnic spots serving up organic goodness to entirely plant-based menus, Perth’s foodie hotspots are all about feeling good inside and out. So, if you’re looking to fuel your day with meals that are as wholesome as they are delicious, you’re in the right place.

Start your day right

Your mum always told you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it’s true that if your first meal of the day is packed full of goodness, you are already kicking goals. For a leisurely weekend breakfast, Fremantle’s Bread In Common is the reigning champion. They started out baking organic wood-fired breads on the premises, and this welcoming warehouse space is now one of the city’s top ethical eateries. Pull up a seat at one of its communal tables and tuck into anything from quinoa salad to burnt-toast ice cream. Top tip: the ferments, pickles, preserves and charcuterie are all made in house.

And then there’s: The most memorable toast in town is found at Post located within COMO The Treasury just off the east side of the Postal Hall in the State Buildings - its nut-and-seed loaf served with avocado and tomato is delish. Over in Northbridge at the hip Sayers Sister, which is decked out with murals and vintage light fittings, the leek and parmesan croquettes are the go-to dish.

Get plant powered

It started 10 years ago in a lane way in Northbridge and although the start of 2025 saw Flora and Fauna wave goodbye to their beloved maiden store, the story continues in the seaside suburb of Fremantle. Described as a little cafe with a big heart, the decadent plant-based dishes are big, bright and beautiful and always served with a smile. Keep an eye on their social pages to keep up with their regular vegan high tea and live, acoustic music events. While you’re in Freo, don’t forget to visit the iconic Fremantle Markets where there are over 150 stalls and an abundance of fresh produce and artisan products.

For something more savoury, Source Foods in Highgate offers veggie-based breakfast and brunch options with their seasonal menu featuring the very best of fresh, local produce made with love.

And then there’s: Eating plant-based no longer means missing out on your favourite sweet treats, especially when there’s places like WHIP Patisserie. This entirely vegan French-inspired patisserie is bringing croissants, eclairs and even croquembouche to the plant-based community.

Get sustainable

For the ultimate experience in sustainable living, look no further than Perth City Farm. Created by the team at popular organic cafe, Be Free, this once degraded industrial site, is now a flourishing community hub where organic gardens, art spaces, and friendly farm animals coexist. Open every Saturday morning, swing past to explore the lively farmers market, brimming with fresh produce and local delights. If you’re keen to get your hands dirty, take part in one of their workshops which range from cheese or pasta making to beekeeping and botanical art.

And then there’s: Set on the banks of the Swan River, Peninsula Farm Cafe is a charming eatery with a strong focus on organic, seasonal, and sustainable local produce, with options for everyone, including kids and furry friends. If you’re feeling a bit fancy, opt for one of their famous grazing boards or the Farm High Tea and treat yourself with a range of savoury and sweet treats (which yes, includes freshly made scones and jam).

Artisanal options

Sample the wholesome goodness from the kitchens of the New Norcia Benedictine Community at their Salvado Roadhouse, a 90-minute drive northwest of Perth. You can also buy their handmade treats from the online shop, where you’ll find Wyening Mission Farm tapenades and olives, New Norcia honey and olive oils, as well as pan chocolatti or nut cake, which they bake in the town’s century-old woodfired oven.

The Perth Hills are home to beautiful artisanal markets which showcase local producers and their crafts. The Kalamunda Artisan Market in the town’s central mall is where you’ll find Colmena untreated honey, hot-pepper sauce and preserved limes from Cherry Boots and gluten-free Choc A Choc Cookie Mix from The Natural Food Emporium – or you can take part in live demonstrations at the Kalamunda Farmers Market.

And then there’s: The first vineyards in the Perth Hills were planted in the 1880s but along with the grape vines, came the orchards. Core Cider is one of the most well-established producers in the region and offers a unique farm experience. Visitors can wander through the orchards and pick varieties of apples, pears, persimmons, plums, quince and pomegranate.
